Position: Credit Counselor - Lisbon, OH Program: Consumer Credit Counseling Services
Status: Part-Time (up to 24 hours/ week) Schedule: Days and evenings, variable


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Provide budget counseling, pre-bankruptcy credit counseling, financial literacy courses and community referrals.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counsel clients according to established policies, procedures and goals.
  2. Develops “debt reduction” payment schedules and negotiates their acceptance with creditors.
  3. Maintains financial records and correspondences as per procedure.
  4. Gathers data and prepares reports as required.
  5. Attends CCCS staff meetings and agency staff development activities.
  6. Must travel to outside offices 1 time a week or as needed.
  7. Must speak at workshops or community outreach programs at least 2 times a month or as needed.
  8. Responds to creditor and client inquires as needed.
  9. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  10. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to use computer programs; fax machine, copier and adding machine.
  2. Ability to type at least 50 words per minute.
  3. Sensitivity to and openness to learn about family and psychosocial factor of clients’ credit problems.
  4. Willingness to provide excellent customer service.
  5. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  6. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation). 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree required or 2 years experience in business or accounting.  Must be bondable.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  Two year’s experience working directly with customer or clients.  Ability to use computer programs; fax machine, copier and adding machine.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to travel off-site as needed.
