LGBTQ troupe to stage inaugural performance at Kent Trumbull

Posted Mar. 25, 2014

The Kent Trumbull Council on Diversity will welcome YOUnify, an LGBTQ Youth Theatre Company, to the Kent Trumbull Theatre on Friday, April 18 for an 8 p.m. performance of "Closet Space." The production will serve as the inaugural show for the company.

YOUnify, part of the Pride Youth Theatre Alliance, was founded in 2012 by Kris Harrington and Daniel-Raymond Nadon, Ph.D., associate professor, theatre at Kent State Trumbull, under the mentorship of Susan Haugh, artistic director of Dreams of Hope in Pittsburgh.

The goal of the troupe is to empower the area’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered, and underprivileged youths through the arts.

Last year, YOUnify had a series of workshops that led to the conception of “Closet Space,” which is a collection of coming out stories based on the youth participants’ personal experiences.

The performance is free and open to the public, with a 30-minute talk back following the show.
