KSU East Liverpool Students Win English Department AwardsPosted Apr. 27, 2012
Four Kent State University East Liverpool Campus students won five awards in writing contests offered through the Kent State University English Department. Three students placed in the Virginia Perryman Awards for students on the Regional Campuses, three awards for first year students in composition and honors colloquium classes submitted from students on all Regional Campuses, and three student awards for essays submitted at Kent Campus. First place in the Regional Awards went to Mark Kovalcik of Highlandtown, second place to Joseph Langdon of East Liverpool, and third place to Lisa Johnson of East Liverpool. The Virginia Perryman Awards were established to encourage students to achieve excellence in writing.
In partnership with textbook manufacturer Bedford-St. Martin’s, the Kent State English Department awarded three prizes to students from all Kent Campuses in any class in the composition sequence to encourage excellence in writing. Second place in the English Department-Bedford-St. Martin’s Essay Contest went to Christine Ensell and third place to Mark Kovalcik.
Winners were honored and received certificates and prizes at the English Department Annual Awards Ceremony held in the Kent State University Student Center on April 26, 2012. All students were enrolled in Dr. Patti Swartz’s classes.
