Kent State Salem Announces Symphonious Series

First Concert, Sunday, Features Kent State Musical Theatre Majors Bound for Broadway

SALEM, Ohio –  Kent State University at Salem will host three free concerts this semester as part of its Salem Symphonious Series. Concerts are Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. All concerts are held at the Kent State Salem City Center Auditorium, located at 230 N. Lincoln Ave., in downtown Salem.  
Concert is free and open to the public

On Sunday, the Senior New York City Musical Theatre Showcase from Kent State University’s School of Theatre and Dance will bring Broadway to Salem. These professionally trained students will perform music from some of Broadway’s best musicals. This event is the senior musical theatre class’ pre-show before traveling to
New York City to audition for agents and casting directors. Past Kent State musical
theatre students have gone on to win Tony Awards, including Alice Ripley, who won the 2009 award for best actress in a musical for “Next to Normal.”

On Sunday April 1 the Jazz Band from the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School
will play toe tapping tunes. The Charter School, located in Midland, Penn., is a world-class high school for the arts. It was founded in 2006.

On Saturday April 28, the Kent State Salem Communiversity Choir will delight its audience with a walk down Broadway as they sing renditions of past and present hits from New York City’s famed street.  

The Kent State Salem City Center is located at 230 North Lincoln Ave. in downtown Salem. Parking, including handicapped parking, is located at the rear of the building. Additional parking is available in lots to the north of the building, or in the municipal lot off Second Street.
