In keeping with Holocaust Remembrance Day, Kent State at East Liverpool is showing two movies followed by a brief discussion.  On Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m., in room 116 of the Main Building “Escape from Sobibor” will be shown.  This action film is the true story of more than 200 prisoners who escaped from the Sorbibor Extermination Camp during World War II.   The British made-for-television was created in 1987 and directed by Jack Gold. It aired on CBS. Whereas three uprisings occurred at concentration camps, the one at Sobibor was the most successful. Of the approximately 600 prisoners, almost 300 escaped. Though most were unfortunately found and killed, the Nazis were forced to close the camp and reforest the area. The movie is based on Richard Rashke’s Escape from Sobibor. On Thursday, April 8, the campus will present “The Last Days” at 2 p.m. in room 116 of the Main Building. “The Last Days” is an award winning documentary by Steven Spielberg of five survivors of concentration camps.  The Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation is dedicated to documenting the oral histories of Holocaust survivors and commissioned the film. 

A discussion will follow both films and light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
