MUSE Group Book Club - Next Discussion Oct. 20th
Posted Oct. 6, 2010
The MUSE Group book club is gearing up for their fall series. The three books featured are: Little Brother, Then We Came to the End and Unaccustomed Earth. Attendees at the next meeting (October 20th) will receive a free copy of Unaccustomed Earth.
The Muse Group is a Library sponsored reading and discussion program that is free and open to the public. Presenters of the books are Kent State University faculty and staff. The mission of this group is to bring lively and interesting discussion of a wide variety of books on differing topics to whoever would like to read, and then have a forum in which to discuss their books of interest.
The first selected reading, Little Brother, was an intriguing novel that tells of a group of teens who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Department of Homeland Security believes the teens are linked to a terrorist cell in San Francisco. Rachael Esterly presented this book on Wednesday September 29 on the second floor of the Blair Memorial Library. Students and faculty gathered for an interesting discussion on the book and on terrorism, which was a major factor in Little Brother. “The Muse Group encourages reading for pleasure and this is important to me because reading helps keep my mind sharp and open to new ideas,” Esterly said.
The second novel, Then We Came to the End, is full of twisted humor as it depicts an office coming apart at the seams. Plagued with deaths, affairs and total mayhem, it is not an average day at the office.
For those who enjoy short stories that mirror real life situations Unaccustomed Earth will not disappoint. The Muse Group will meet Oct. 20 and Nov. 18. Presenters for the upcoming discussions are Susan Weaver, and Dr. Ali Errotouni.
The first 20 people to call 330.382.7401 and register for the next two discussions will receive a free copy of Unaccustomed Earth the third and final book of the MUSE Fall series. Those receiving a free a copy of Unaccustomed Earth can pick it up at the end of the discussion of Then We Came to the End, on October 20. Attendees may borrow the books through KentLINK and OhioLINK. Anyone who is uncertain of how to access the preceding resources can stop by the library and ask for assistance on how to do so. Those who are not students or staff may request courtesy library cards.
The MUSE book club meets at noon in the Blair Memorial Library at Kent State University at East Liverpool. For additional information call 330.382.7401 or visit the East Liverpool Campus Library.
