Insurance Studies Students Attend National Claims Conference
Kent State University at Salem was well represented at the Property & Liability Resource Bureau’s (PLRB) Claims Conference and Insurance Services Expo held in Indianapolis last month by students Dan Newlin, Allie Oden and Liza Sabatka, along with Carol Blaine, lead faculty member for the Insurance Studies program.
Each of the three students are insurance studies majors at Kent State Salem, the state’s first university to offer a bachelor’s degree in this discipline. While attending the PLRB conference, the students attended several educational sessions, including a mock trial on the defense of liquor allegations against bars and taverns.
Other educational session topics included handling misrepresentations, engaging and retaining employees, impending changes to commercial insurance policy contracts, cyber liability and food-related terrorism.
“With over 300 exhibitors and 2,000 participants, even seasoned professionals can become overwhelmed by this national claims conference”, Blaine noted. “But, the students easily held their own, interacting with organizational presidents and top-ranked claims leaders from across the country. I was proud to introduce Allie, Lisa and Dan as students of Kent State’s insurance degree program.”
This event is the largest, most diverse gathering of claims professionals and service providers in the insurance industry. It is billed as the “premier educational and networking event” for the property and casualty claim industry and attracts thousands of participants from around the country.
