Two TeleProductions students head to the major leagues

From shooting live sporting events to producing professional videos, TeleProductions helped two student workers hit it off with the Cleveland Indians. TeleProductions

Mike Donelan, a sophomore electronic media production major, is 19 and has already completed one of his dreams: working as a production intern for the Cleveland Indians. The 19-year-old sophomore used his one-year experience with TeleProductions to get him where he is today.

“Without running camera for live sporting events at TeleProductions, I would not know the first thing about how to shoot what I do in Cleveland,” Donelan said.

Along with his production experience from TeleProductions, Donelan also uses his design expertise from working with Jim Hurguy, TeleProductions’ graphic designer.

“Without the knowledge I learned in the graphics department, I would be a fish out of water in Cleveland,” Donelan said.

From designing video board content at Dix Stadium, Donelan now creates jumbotron content for thousands to watch at Progressive Field. Paired with his on-field production work, he also helps create Cleveland Indian promotions for TV.

Along with Donelan, former TeleProductions worker and Kent State University alumnus Brian Recktenwald worked with the Indians for the 2013 season. Recktenwald used his three-year’s worth of experience at TeleProductions to prepare himself as well.

“TeleProductions definitely helped prepare me for the Indians; the workflow is similar; I am used to the environment,” he said. “My experience at TeleProductions helped me get the job at the Indians because I was able to put together a professional demo reel.”

Paired with his classes, Donelan continues to work at TeleProductions and build his production resume.

“TeleProductions has helped me gain real-life experience when I'm still in school,” Donelan said. “No class can prepare you for real-life experience.”
