KSU Students Recognized for Campus and Community Service

Posted Aug. 31, 2011

Kent State University at East Liverpool’s Wall of Fame Committee is pleased to announce the recipients of both the Campus Service Award and the Community Service Awards. Both awards are designed to recognize students for improving the quality of life within the University community.

Recipients of the Campus Service Award are senior computer technology major Jeremy Adkins and senior applied communications major Kimberly Schneider.

Student Community Service Award recipients are junior Matthew McConnell, who is studying business management and seniors Kathleen Duco and Erica Hosterman, both of whom are studying to become physical therapist assistants.

“It is challenging to select individual students for these awards,” added the campus assistant Dean, Dr. Sue Rossi. “Many of our students are involved in activities to make our community a better place to call home.  We are proud that Kent State students are continuing the University’s tradition of making a difference in our region.”

In order to receive the Student Campus Service Award, current student employees or current student volunteers must have taken initiative to strengthen Kent State East Liverpool.  According to the campus business manager, Henry Trenkelbach, “Without the extra things our students do, we would not be able to initiate so many additional projects to benefit the campus.”

“It means a lot to be recognized for the work I do on a daily basis,” Senior Kimberly Schneider said. “I really appreciate this award, and I will continue to work diligently day in and day out to positively impact Kent State East Liverpool.”

Student Community Service Award nominees must be current students engaged in community service activities beyond program or academic requirements.

Junior Matt McConnell was surprised to learn of his achievement. “I was shocked when I found out I received this award.” McConnell said. “I just do what I believe to be the right thing every day, and it’s a good feeling to know someone took notice.”
