The problems diverse people (including Latinos/as) experience when receiving healthcare as a result of low economic status, poor living conditions, language, accent, etc…
How race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, color, and addictions can become an obstacle if the provider or patient has a bias that may hinder proper diagnosis or proper sharing of information.
Dr. Aponte will also discuss the lack of training medical providers have in cultural competency and the barriers that can develop in patient care.
