International Advisor Hired by Communication StudiesPosted Jan. 4, 2013
Miao Liu joined the School of Communication Studies as its first International Advisor and Liaison. Liu will be providing advising and counseling services to international students in CCI, helping the College better understand and meet international students’ needs, serving as a liaison related to student success with CCI, the College’s Chinese partner institutions, external international institutions, the Kent State China office and the Office of Global Education.
Prior to joining Communication Studies, Liu served as an auditor for Kent State for seven years. She is an alumna of Kent State University with a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Accounting. Liu served as an undergraduate resident assistant for two years and an assistant residence hall director for an additional two years while earning her graduate degree. Liu brings valuable knowledge of university resources for student success and experience working with students on the Kent State campus.
Liu was born in China and came to the United States during her senior year of high school.
“I am well aware of the difficulties in adapting to a new environment, language and culture as an international student, in addition to the demanding academic schedule,” Liu said.
Liu has also supported international students’ interests through her work with local churches since 2003.
“By working with the faculty, staff, students and various university and community resources, I hope to promote a successful and invaluable study abroad experience for the international students enrolled in the College,” Liu said.
