Ways to Support

 SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship support provides the avenue to attract and retain students.  Financial barriers that frustrate student career ambitions are overcome by vibrant and flexible scholarship opportunities.

Scholarships can be made at any monetary level.  A scholarship gift can be placed into an existing scholarship fund or can be used to create a new fund to honor a loved one, recognizing a faculty member, or in the name of business, club or organization.

The Institutional Advancement officer is ready to help you establish a scholarship and develop award criteria that meet your fund’s objectives.

RURAL SCHOLAR PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Rural Scholars Program is active in six Columbiana County public school districts and we hope to include all 11 county school districts. This program currently works with seventh grade students who face barriers such as generational poverty, lack of role models and insufficient academic preparation that exclude them from college level work.

The cadre of students receive weekly mentoring from Kent State University student volunteers and attend an intense summer workshop focusing on academic skills. The students also attend biannual one-day workshops that emphasis the connection between education and career paths.  Students are supervised and guided through these experiences over a five-year period until they enroll in post-secondary education.

If a Rural Scholar participates in the five-year program, maintains a 2.5 grade point average, agrees to serve as student mentor and elects to attend college, he or she becomes eligible for a sponsored scholarship to cover the cost of tuition at any Kent State campus.

This Fund will provide the scholarships for those students who successfully complete the program.  For more information about the Rural Scholars Program go to:  http://www.columbiana.kent.edu/academics/ruralscholars/index.cfm
